Jinxiu's Wedding Guest Book, in a Parisian Café Shop Front-Inspired Box

So, my dearest girlfriend from art college is getting married! We have came a long way, 10 years of friendship and I'm glad that she found a guy who is dedicated to taking good care of her (as compared to the assholes that she was dating previously.) So happy for you Xiu!!

So anyway, here's a wedding guest book that I made for her, housed in a Parisian café shop front-inspired box, which *ahem*, yours truly hand crafted outta chipboard.

This is also a guest design project for MiniAlbumScraps, using the "Gates Mini Album", and "Parisian Shapes Set" available in their store.

Close up on the details in the guest book. The large indigo rose is from Prima Roses of Spain, Anais collection from 2010. Love this. Prima don't do fabric flowers this way anymore :( The rest are Prima classics. Also some flower trim and pom pom trim. Chipboard shapes are from MiniAlbumScraps.

Now, close ups on the box.

The bicycle is metal! It's from the recent Prima Shabby Chic Treasures collection. Pretty yea?

The gate is again, from MiniAlbumScraps. I highly recomend that you check out their store on their Ning, Lotsa awesome laser cut shaped albums, and laser cut shapes set!

Finally, a look at how the box opens...

To house the guest book...

And tadah!! The chandalier on the guest book is strategically placed so that it appears through the "window" of the shop front. Now the wedding couple is in a nice cozy cafe, lit by a chandalier, while they sip their coffee.

Ok that's all for now, gonna hop on ovr to my friend's place to drop off the guest book. Did I mention that she is gonna move into my neighbourhood soon and is literally living a stone's throw away?! How awesome is that! I'm looking forward to late night coffee and ice cream now, perhaps in a quaint nearby café like this one!

In Loving Memory of Avery Lynn Canahuati 11/11/11 - 30/04/12

"Imagine you've been diagnosed with an incurable genetic disease and you are told you will not only lose your ability to walk and move your arms, but you will die between now and the next 18 months. What would you do? My name is Avery Lynn Canahuati, I'm almost 5 months old, and this has become my reality. But before I die, there's a few things I'd like to accomplish...this is my bucket list and my story. SHARE IT & HELP ME TELL THE WORLD ABOUT SMA!"

This is little Avery's introduction, on her blog Avery's Bucket List. Have you read her blog? Or seen her in the news recently? Avery has a genetic disease clled SMA type 1. Have you heard of it?

On the morning of 30 April, I chanced upon her blog. One of the posts on her blog has a bucket list, a list of things Avery wanna do before she dies, one of which read "Paint a picture for my mommy and daddy". Well, I can't paint on her behalf, cos that doesn't quite count does it? But I thought that little Avery and her parents might like a little hand made gift as keepsake, and here it is.

I've also included a pull out mechanism, where I wrote some stuff (not shown here) for Avery.

Unfortunately, Avery crossed the rainbow bridge later on the same day that I discovered her blog :(

Without me explaining, do you know what SMA is? Well, if you don't, please hop on over to her blog. I want you to hear it from her. So i'm not going to go into details here. But it's a genetic disease where MANY PEOPLE are carriers. You may seem normal, but it might surface in your children, or grandchildren because you passed it on to them. There are no cures, and infants suffering from SMA type 1 will not live past 2.

So what can you do?

The pre-pregnancy test for SMA is COVERED BY INSURANCE, but is not commonly offered (and most people don't opt for it cos they have not heard of it). So if you are thinking of having a child, or know of anyone who is, PLEASE hop on over to Avery's blog, to read about the disease which took her away, and prevent it from happening to yourselves. That's all Avery is asking for... Nothing can be done for her, but EVERYTHING can be done for you, if only you KNOW about SMA.

And... Hello Again.

*sweeps off the cobwebs*

If you are still here... well then, HIIIIIEEEEE!!! :D

Life has been really busy recently, moving into a new home, getting into a new routine, all the weekend housewarming tea parties... Gosh!

So yes, scrapbooking and blogging took a backseat for a bit. But now I'm back, and ready to get going :)

I have a few projects that I'll be sharing over the next couple of days.

A gift that I made for Avery and her parents of Avery's Bucket List. The 5 month old little girl has just passed on though, before my present reaches her hands. But I hope that it will be a good keepsake for her parents :(

Also made a farewell gift for my intern at work. Sweet and highly intelligent girl. I'm telling ya, she's on a scholarship and sooooooooo gonna be my boss some day! So Dileen, if you are reading this, that's why I'm being nice to you! I have a motive here! Haha, ok I'm kidding!

And finally, a handcrafted box inspired by quaint Parisian cafe shop fronts, to house a guest book for my friend's wedding. This is also a guest design project for Mini Album Scraps. Check out the site for awesome swaps, as well as exclusive laser diecuts (which I used for this project).

So yep, bye for now. I'll go take photos of those projects and do watch this space :)
